India promises to regain its eminence as a tourist generating market for Singapore, says Srithar, Regional Director for India, Middle East and South Asia for Singapore Tourism. He has spent more than a decade in this region and is conversant with both the market as well as its key drivers.
Effective 1st April, Singapore is fully open to tourism. “Presently, 14 Indian cities have direct air connectivity to Singapore. More than 50% of the pre-Covid air capacity to Singapore from India is back. Consumers can enjoy travel to Singapore via different options offered by SIA, Indigo, Vistara and Air India.”
“There are no Covid test requirements for fully vaccinated travellers either before departure from India or after arrival into Singapore. Rules for moving about in Singapore are almost back to pre-Covid situation, with the exception of masks required in indoor areas. Restaurants and bars are open for dining in groups.”
In a bid to win back family travellers, major attractions have come together to give a flat 50% on entry tickets for children under 12 years old. Hotels might be slightly more expensive than pre Covid, but that is partly because of the increased business costs. But hotels are reporting significant room bookings.
Between January and March, India had already become the second most important visitor source market, after Indonesia. Indian market numbers are showing good promise and recovery for the business. Given the nature of travel between the two countries, a mix of VFR, business and leisure, STB and tourism partners are looking to welcome more Indian visitors.
