India’s southeast Asia connect has received a major shot in the arm with the low-cost carrier IndiGo announcing non-stop flights connecting the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur with Delhi and Bengaluru. To be launched beginning the mid-November, the service is expected to boost bilateral footfall and muscle up connectivity at a time when the government, too, has made East Asia connectivity a top priority.
“We are pleased to announce Kuala Lumpur as our 12th international destination effective November 2018. Malaysia provides a complete package for business travellers, holiday makers, the meeting and conference segment,” William Boulter, Chief Commercial Officer, IndiGo said in a statement. “We see (a) great potential on the India-Malaysia route due to the extensive cultural, business and tourism links between the two countries,” he added.
Air Asia, another LCC operating from KL, had launched non-stop service linking Bhubaneshwar with the Malaysian capital, opening the eastern state to its vast network of 120 destinations. With IndiGo now in fray, it is is expected that a fast-improving overall connectivity to southeast Asian locales will reflect on inbound tourism numbers.
