The hotel behemoth is set to foray in the Goan market one more time, under the ITC brand, as it has announced that it would soon operationalise Park Hyatt Goa Resort and Spa at Cansaulim. For the uninitiated, ITC managed Cidade de Goa before exiting the property a couple of decades ago. ITC presently operated hotels under the Fortune brand in the coastal state before this new development.
ITC had acquired the sprawling 45 acres property in 2015 through a successful auction process held by Industrial Finance Corporation of India (IFCI) for INR 541 crores. The original owner of the property, Blue Coast Hotels, had alleged that the property had been undervalued and sold and challenged the auction in the courts. The acquisition faced legal hurdles before the Supreme Court ruled in the favour of the company. ‘ITC Hotels is preparing for the upcoming festive and tourist season. Business continuity remains the top priority for the company’, the company said in a statement.
“ITC is pleased to announce the latest addition to its luxury hotel portfolio in the hospitality landscape of Goa. This has been a long-awaited destination for ITC and we welcome the opportunity to be integrated into the multi-faceted culture and ethos of Goa,” Nakul Anand, Executive Director, ITC said. Further reflecting on the development, he noted that “the addition is aligned with ITC’s vision of offering world-class Indian hospitality premised on ITC Hotels’ service philosophy of ‘Atithi Devo Bhava’. In order to ensure business continuity and seamless transition, the leadership team of ITC Hotels is on hand to support the current team of managers and associates.” He also lauded the state government and its key officials, emphasising that the hotel company had received “tremendous support” for the earliest resumption of operations to support the tourism goals of the state.
The property is nestled along Arossim Beach and close to Dabolim Airport. The hotel features 252 Indo-Portuguese style rooms and suites.
